Several readers wrote to point our an error I made concerning the overall tolerance of several series-connected resistors. My mind was on things like rise-times of cascaded instruments when I stated (July 2002) that the tolerance would be worse than that of an individual resistor. In the case of the risetimes, you use the square root of the sum of the squares of the individual risetimes.
