JUDGE SETS HEARING ON BLANCHARD DA'S ROLE IN PROBE AT STAKE.(LOCAL/STATE)

A Dane County circuit judge next week will consider removing District Attorney Brian Blanchard from the probe of alleged illegal campaigning at the Capitol because of a possible conflict of interest.

Judge Sarah O'Brien, who is presiding over the secret John Doe investigation into campaign abuses, will hold a hearing Tuesday -- requested by Blanchard himself -- into whether Blanchard benefited from illegal campaign help from legislative staffers when he ran for office two years ago.
