NATCHEZ - A ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 20, 2002, to celebrate the awarding of the contract to begin construction of the last 8.7 miles of the Natchez Trace Parkway into Natchez. And the event will also commemorate the transfer of property that was acquired for this project by the state of Mississippi to the National Park Service, according to Natchez Trace Parkway superintendent Wendell Simpson.

The ceremony will be held at the open field located at Liberty Road and Lissie Street in Natchez. The pre-event reception will begin at 4:30 p.m., with the formal ...
