Britain's top negotiator at the Earth Summit voiced disappointment yesterday that US President George W Bush had stayed away from the landmark meeting and urged big business to play their part in protecting the planet.

Environment Secretary Margaret Beckett said that the US delegation in Johannesburg was fully engaged despite George Bush's no-show.
