Opening a business during an economic slump can be risky, but New Horizons Computer Learning Center has been attracting customers from its very first day.

The DeWitt franchise, which opened in March, had 30 students lined up for classes on the morning the center opened.

"It wasn't the best time to start a business," said Linus Dirnberger, who runs the franchise with his wife, Margie Polis. "But we're growing every month. When businesses cut back, they're often looking for improved productivity, and we help with that."
