Cautions On Infant Apnea Monitors The Food and Drug Administration has alerted health professionals and consumer groups that infant apnea monitors, while useful in detecting cessation of breathing, require proper use to maximize their effectiveness. Users should be aware that all models can produce "false alarms," in which the monitor is triggered despite normal breathing. Conversely, they can occasionally fail to detect episodes of apnea.
