NORFOLK -- Giraffes are a zoo veterinarian's nightmare.

They're ready to bolt at the slightest sign of danger. In an indoor enclosure, their long limbs can easily trip and tangle, causing torn tendons or broken bones. And many of the drugs used to sedate zoo animals for treatment can be lethal to giraffes.
