Emerald lays off 26 one week after Root's resignation

One week after the resignation of company President Bob Root, Emerald Systems Corp. of San Diego last week laid off 26 employees, reducing its local workforce by roughly 15 percent.

Officials at the computer peripheral products firm blamed the cutbacks on a flat economy and slumping sales of its data storage systems.
