Aug. 14--The Better Business Bureau of Northwest North Carolina is warning job seekers to be on guard for employment opportunities touted by less-than-reputable companies.

Although no statistics are available, anecdotal evidence suggests that the number of employment-related schemes has increased in recent months along with the unemployment rate, the head of the bureau said this week.
