One of the major events of the 2002 Ravinia Festival will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday when music director Christoph Eschenbach conducts Sergei Rachmaninoff's opera, "Francesca da Rimini."
Based on Dante's "Inferno," this seldom-heard work will star soprano Marina Mescheriakova in the title role, tenor Vinson Cole as Paolo, bass Sergei Leiferkus as Malatesta, bass Robert Pomakov as Virgil and tenor Scott Ramsey as Dante.
