For more than a year, someone's been missing at Maury High School. A gaping hole between two portraits in the stately foyer of the school built in 1911 was a constant reminder of a mysterious disappearance: that of Matthew Fontaine Maury.

After searching high and low, calling pawn shops and tracking down leads, the Maury family gave up hope that the portrait of its school's namesake would reappear.
