EDUCATION Department officials were today playing down reports that 500,000 university students are set to be given grants worth about pounds 30 a week.
The Times today reported that education allowances set to be paid from 2004 to students aged 16 to 18 from less well-off families who stay on at school were to be extended to undergraduates.
