The microbiology laboratory at our 642-bed hospital is a busy place. The lab is divided into two areas, each with its own technical specialist. One area is devoted exclusively to bacteriology. The other, in which I work, does serology, virology, acid-fast bacillus (AFB)/fungus, and planting.
