The purpose of this research was to determine the presence of Clostridium perfringens found in or on dry soil, water, silage, soil in a barn, cow bedding, and cow udders. C. perfringens is a soil-borne Gram positive bacteria, is hemolytic, and produces the enzyme lecithinase, and is anaerobic. Soil and water samples were obtained, diluted with tap water, smeared onto blood agar plates, then cultured in anaerobic conditions. Anaerobic conditions were achieved using GasPac pouches clinically used for anaerobic culturing. ...
