THE Oswestry and District Powys Provincial Eisteddfod attracted competitors from all over north and mid Wales and from Shropshire.
The winner of the Learner of the Year title at the 1999 Anglesey National Eisteddfod, Alison Layland, of nearby Llangynog, proved her excellent command of the Welsh language by winning the Eisteddfod crown, while translator Hilma Lloyd Edwards, from Bontnewydd, near Caernarfon, won the chair, her 48th.
