The preposition 'in' was strategically chosen for the title of this volume. Most MLR readers will know Thomas Arden 'of' Feversham, according to the 1592 stage play recounting his notorious murder. But Patricia Hyde's professed interest is as much Faversham as Arden. She writes: 'This book was inspired by [Ladurie's] Montaillou and is an attempt to see how clear a picture can be drawn from available documents of the varying roles ...
