Heralding the demise of the Hamptons is one of New Yorkers' favorite pastimes. But it's hard to imagine a more civilized way to doomsay than the one taken up in January by landscape architect Perry Guillot. For the next three feverishly inspired months, Guillot, who divides his time between Southampton and the Upper West Side, dashed off a series of 140 elegant drawings that depict Southampton's rise and fall from the perspective of one of the resort colony's most quietly significant players: the privet hedge.
