As of Saturday afternoon, the Newman/Haas Racing team had no plans for a hometown victory celebration Sunday night.

The Lincolnshire-based team was just hoping top driver Cristiano da Matta would do well enough in Sunday's CART Grand Prix of Chicago in Cicero to retain his current points lead in the FedEx Championship Series.

But Newman/Haas learned Sunday that things don't always go as planned - sometimes they go better than planned.
