THE number of patients waiting for hospital appointments in Wales soared to record levels yesterday, amid claims things were unlikely to get better.

Latest figures revealed 73,362 patients were waiting longer than six months for their first outpatient appointment in May, a rise of more than 2,000 on the previous month.
