FRANCIS FUKUYAMA's title seems to promise a description of what things will be like now that biotechnology has made it possible to do what our ancestors could not. One opens his book expecting either a utopian or an apocalyptic vision of the future. But in fact he offers no predictions, only useful warnings and sensible counsel.
