Though not official yet, someday soon the Pentagon will issue a campaign medal for duty in Afghanistan. It will become the latest award to qualify for VFW membership.
In the meantime, U.S. troops are gaining VFW eligibility in the war zone by earning the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB), the Combat Medical Badge (CMB) and the Combat Action Ribbon (CAR).
