It was late afternoon of Tuesday, October 26, 1926, when nine-year-old Bart Doupe watched a special train come to a standstill about a kilometre east of Port Credit railway station. It stood there for several minutes and eventually an official climbed down, called the boy over, and asked him if he would carry a message from the Queen of Romania, who was onboard the train, to the telegraph office in the nearby railway station. The boy was more than willing to oblige.
