When Boston firefighters look at the 12 photos on the back of David Halberstam's new book "Firehouse" (Hyperion, $22.95), they see more than their firefighting "brothers."
They see friends.
The book is an intimate portrait of the Engine 40, Ladder 35 company, which sent 13 men to the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, shortly after two hijacked planes struck the buildings. Only one of those men returned.
