Introduction

JOSEPH ALOIS SCHUMPETER (1883-1950) first published Theorie der wirtschaftlichen Entwicklung (hereafter abbreviated to Theorie) in German during the fall of 1911. (1) When the first English translation of Theorie appeared in 1934, it was based on the thoroughly revised second German edition, which had been published in 1926.
