Congressman proposes updating citizenship oath.(The Orange County Register)

WASHINGTON _ A member of Congress who watched his mother take the oath of citizenship when he was a young boy has drafted a new oath so immigrants can truly understand the allegiance they are pledging.
Rep. George Gekas, R-Pa., says he still attends several swearing in ceremonies a year and doesn't believe "the oath really penetrates the consciousness of the new citizens to the extent it should." He plans to introduce a bill this week to change it.
