COLUMBUS, Ga. _ A congressional delegation says the future of Fort Benning appears secure, but that it will keep a close eye on the Army as it continues to undergo modernization.
Following weeks of speculation and rumor that Fort Benning had been targeted for program and personnel reduction, Gen. John N. Abrams, commander of the U.S. Army's Training and Doctrine Command, told delegates U.S. Sen. Max Cleland, D-Ga., and U.S. Reps. Sanford Bishop, D-Ga., and Mac Collins, R-Ga., this week that the "Home of the Infantry" has not been targeted for reduction.
