Sisters are doing it for themselves, it seems - for the ranks of rich single women living in the UK are swelling. A new report says there are now 195,000 unmarried material women, who own at least pounds 25,000 in liquid assets, such as cash and easy-to-sell shares.

And their numbers are set to rise, along with their bank balances - which currently total around pounds 10.2 billion - according to research by Close Wealth Management.
