With the exhibition "Rainbow Mandala," Fluxus veteran Ay-O combines his signature rainbow imagery and a new motif of circles with centered dots. Twelve works from 2001, some consisting of multiple canvases, were made of baked crayon and acrylic. Ay-O places bits of crayon on his canvases and heats them in the oven until the colors melt and blend. Kernels of crayon remain on the surfaces like mini-volcanoes on a multihued relief map, their flows creating the geometric design.
