One of my favorite culinary herbs is lovage (Levisticum officinale). This Mediterranean native grows luxuriantly in my Montana garden, with a single clump reaching 6 feet tall and over 2 feet wide. If you like celery as much as I do, you'll relish the intense flavor of lovage leaves and the stringless stalks.
In my kitchen, I use lovage all year in various ways. In the spring, I harvest tender young stems and blanch them with fresh asparagus shoots. In summer, I chop fresh leaves to season soups or to sprinkle over salad. Later in the season, when the flat-topped ...
