A HUGE aid mission was underway in Afghanistan last night after an earthquake killed up to 5,000 and left 20,000 homeless.
The quake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, tore across a remote area of Baglan province, 100 miles north of Kabul.
Mud-brick houses close to the epicentre at Nahrin were flattened as tremors rippled just 40 miles below the ground.
