A Carlsbad-based company is helping to bring a popular Japanese card craze to America.

The Upper Deck Co., which markets sports trading cards and other sports memorabilia, acquired exclusive rights to market and distribute the trading card game Yu-Gi-Oh! in North America. Cards went on sale March 1 nationwide.

The game, aimed at children ages 10 and up, is similar to the Pokemon card game, another popular Japanese craze. Both feature collectible cards printed with monsters, each with magical powers. And both are being cross-marketed as a trading card game, ...
