The Nordic stock exchanges face a big challenge if they are to find an independent role in a European system that is increasingly dominated by a few large exchanges.
This problem was clearly identified two years ago by OM Group, the owner of the Swedish Exchange, when it embarked on a strategy first to consolidate the Nordic markets and then establish a wider presence by taking over the London Stock Exchange (LSE).
