`Blood of My Blood' by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings; Florida.(Knight Ridder Newspapers)

There is a good reason that "Blood of My Blood," the "lost" first novel of Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, was never published until now. As a window into how the author of "The Yearling" and "Cross Creek" saw herself and her family, it's a mildly interesting autobiography, but as a novel it's a dud, stiffly written and full of self loathing that might be disturbing if only the book weren't so self-indulgent.
