Ascension, Consorta craft new contract relationship.(Brief Article)

At times during the past year, it looked as if Ascension Health, St. Louis, and its group purchasing organization, Consorta, Rolling Meadows, Ill., would soon part company.

Now it looks as if they will stay together, but in a different kind of relationship.

Where Ascension's 70-plus hospitals have been bound by Consorta's strict compliance rules, at press time a new agreement was being hammered out that would allow Ascension to ink its own deals on certain high-preference items, or let Consorta negotiate custom contracts on Ascension's behalf.
