Mickey Kantor, President Clinton's choice to succeed Ron Brown as head of the Commerce Department, has a tough act to follow.
While Kantor's tenure as U.S. trade representative generally has been impressive, running the Commerce Department - and indeed keeping it operating - requires many different skills and sensibilities. Brown, despite his liberal Democratic roots, made his mark by skillfully serving as the liaison between government and business.
