Newhall School District students scored well above the national average on standardized tests in the 1996-97 school year, and bilingual education students also showed improvement, the superintendent said.
``On average, students in the Newhall School District are scoring higher than most kids in the nation. That's pretty impressive,'' said Superintendent Marc Winger, who took over as superintendent of the 5,600-student district in July.
