SHE is younger, a little slimmer in the face, and betrays little inclination to break into that famous enigmatic smile.
But this, according to a fascinating new theory, is the Mona Lisa 15 years before she was immortalised by Leonardo da Vinci.
The lesser-known portrait is of Caterina Sforza, a Renaissance beauty painted at the age of 25 by the Italian master Lorenzo di Credi. Art historian Magdalena Soest has undertaken detailed studies of the nose, hair, lips and cheek structure in the picture and believes Caterina is the same ...
