Today I am going to speak about the place of the Church of England in Britain and the wider Church.
I would like to focus on one issue in particular: the relationship of the Church with society in general, and with the state in particular. This is a wider issue than what is loosely known as 'establishment.'
All churches have a relationship with the state that is governed by law. As human institutions they are properly subject to the law of the state in such matters as property, employment, child protection and human rights.
