PURIM EVENTS PLANNED ACROSS THE SOUTHLAND.(NEWS)

Purim will begin at sundown Monday. Jews read the Book of Esther, one of the five books known as megillahs. The holiday commemorates the intervention by Queen Esther to save the Jewish community in biblical Persia. Traditionally, children and adults dress in costumes, have parties and eat holiday foods. Carnivals are annual events at temples and Jewish community centers.
