If Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Halberstam wrote a book on the sports communication empires, it would be on Disney, News Corp and Time Warner, which own ESPN, Fox and CNN. He could call it ``The Powers That Beat It Over Our Heads 24 Hours A Day.''

Halberstam, best known for his literary works on the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement, won't give a very glowing report on today's sports media based on his experience writing two NBA-related books nearly 20 years apart.
