Neila Campbell, a local grief and trauma counselor instrumental in helping school districts develop crisis response networks, died after a six-month battle with cancer. She was 56.
Campbell was a certified death educator best known in the area for helping schools cope with trauma such as the 1998 shooting at Thurston High School.
But she also was a grief counselor, therapeutic touch trainer and a volunteer coordinator who worked with the county's Elder Help Volunteer Program for 14 years.
