CASTAIC - A roiling fish war at Castaic Lake could force dozens of events to steer clear of the area this year.

Some of the West Coast's largest bass fishing groups have canceled or threatened to cancel tournaments at the lake, a prominent Southland fishing site, after county officials decided last month to apply a 15 percent surcharge to such events.

Officials say the fee - which applies to gross revenues - is in line with county policy on other commercial events. But fishing groups and Castaic area businesses say the charge ...
