GREENSBORO -- E.H. Hennis has paid $4,220 he owed Guilford County, thanks to an anonymous friend, and won't see his home sold for his back taxes.

Hennis, who has made a name for himself as the county's most vocal critic, appeared in court Friday to contest the county's effort to foreclose on his home. District Court Judge Thomas Foster Jr. granted Hennis a small victory, allowing him to escape the foreclosure by paying only his back taxes, without $2,097 in legal fees.
