Steve Yaciuk has always had an interest in becoming a fire investigator. Two years ago, when he became a Tully firefighter, he joined the Onondaga County apprentice program.

The program, taught by fire investigators, mentors firefighters and teaches them to become fire investigators, said county Fire Coordinator Mike Waters.

"I've always been interested in fire prevention and how it correlates with fire investigations," Yaciuk said. "I like to find out the reasons behind how fires start."
