It is 28 years since the word "Kurdistan" was shown, scrawled across a wall in director Yilmaz Guney's classic film, Yol -- a scene which promptly got the film banned from Turkish cinema screens until 1999.

These days, cinema-goers in Turkey are spoilt for choice over which film focusing on the -- formerly taboo -- Kurdish issue they should watch. And all of the choices feature a language that for years carried harsh prison sentences for publishing or broadcasting in it -- Kurdish.
