Animal research is one of the most controversial and emotion-laden areas in animal protection. A number of years ago, a woman broke down in tears when she told me how devastated she was when she learned about animal use in biomedical research. While such a reaction is relatively unusual, many people, including many biomedical scientists, are disturbed by the practice.
