Eurocontrol, the European air traffic safety organisation, implemented the RVSM programme (Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum) on January 24, which is designed to increase airspace capacity through the introduction of six additional flight levels between 29,000 and 41,000 feet. For this purpose, it has been necessary to reduce the minimum vertical space separating aircraft flying at different altitudes from 2000 to 1000 feet.
