I HEARD the best excuse ever for a winner not attending an awards ceremony last week.

It wasn't because Robbie was touring in Australia or even a classic line like: "Britney's filming a new movie but she's sent this tape of fake sincerity".

I stood on the stage waiting to present the award with Gaby Roslin when the host announced something along the lines of: "Sadly Peter can't join us today, as he's just died."

Peter was nine and being recognised at the Child Of Achievement Awards for his seven-year struggle to maintain an ordinary life ...
