ENVIRONMENTAL activists are urging the Canadian government to contest a $100 million lawsuit filed against it by US chemical maker Crompton Corp. for banning the use of the pesticide lindane on canola crops.

"Canada must not allow foreign investors to dictate...the approach it takes to regulating substances as dangerous as lindane," a coalition of environmental groups said in a letter last week to Canadian authorities.
