THE POLYETHYLENE industry has reached the bottom of its trough in terms of pricing and margins, and producers are unleashing massive price hikes for January and February. Producers have nominated a 3-cent increase for January contracts and a further 4-cent increase for February. Producers concede that margins are abysmal and both increases are necessary, but they are confident that prices will move despite the market's weakness in 2001.
